MEET YOU AT THE MAC!
McMILLAN ARTS CENTRE, 133 McMillan Street, ParksvilleGALLERY EXHIBITIONS: JANUARY 16 - FEBRUARY 24, 2018
SUSAN HIEBERT - Rich Textures of the West Coast
Susan was born in Taplow, England, and spent much of her childhood in South Wales before moving to Canada in the 1970s. Her passion for art and the natural world began early with country walks through the hills and valleys of the Welsh countryside. An active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Susan is a popular local artist who will be presenting a gallery of unique, highly textured paintings with a rich palette of colour. Many works are of west coast tidal zones, cross sectional earthy striations, and "Big Skies" all with highly textured surfaces. Some pieces have muted earthy tones while others offer a slight 'mica' twinkle. Susan creates paintings to decorate and enrich her surroundings and is constantly inspired by the rich textures of the natural world.
Born in Germany, before emmigrating to South Africa and finally to Canada, Rosi's strong realist impressionist watercolours draw inspiration from her travels to Greece, Africa, Hawaii and Canada. Her style takes on different colours and textures and are strongly influenced by the mood invoked by the original subject; she occasionally displaces objects to better reflect the feeling she gets. Most of her artworks are unnamed, allowing a deeper response from the viewer without the bias of identification. Rosi often forces the medium, painting fast and intently in her desire to capture the moment. Her style, usually realistic impressionist, occasionally abstract, has taken on different shades as she experimented with different ideas, but the colors and images are always evocative, eliciting an interaction with the viewer.
