Parksville Beaches
Rathtrevor Beach is a Parksville beach that is one of the province’s most popular family destinations. Rathtrevor Beach is home to many Vancouver Island resorts and to the BC Provincial Park / Campground of the same name.
The attractions include sea (five kilometers of beachfront), forest (complete with a circular, oceanfront trail) and parkland (including shaded picnic grounds and lots of space to knock a ball around). At low tide, the ocean recedes almost a kilometer back from Rathtrevor’s shoreline.
The Rathtrevor Provincial Park to Top Bridge Municipal Park and Mountain Bike Park is an off-road route that links the provincial park and resorts with a popular walking and swimming area on the Englishman River. Round trip distance from Rathtrevor is 10km.
Further north adjacent to downtown is Parksville Community Beach, home to a remarkable kid’s wonderland of swings, slides and water cannons (a.k.a. Lion’s Venture Land) in addition to great picnicking and beachfront choices. The playground is a Parksville Lions Club project designed for all ages and is wheelchair accessible. The playground is very well known with locals up and down the Island and visitors have been known to have returned on different occasions, just so for their kids to enjoy the park all over again.
Many of the region’s festivals set up shop here, most notably the three-week Parksville Beach Festival, which draws tens of thousands of visitors annually each August.
