Come and see Parksville's premiere event on the beach: The Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition, July 13 - August 18, 2013, organized by the Parksville Beach Festival Society.
Master Sand Sculptors travel from all corners of the globe to participate in this remarkable world class competition. Sculptors have 24 hours over three days to create their masterpieces from just sand and water (and a lot of ingenuity!)
The carving begins Saturday morning and the public can watch them in action beginning at 2 pm. The winners will be announced on Sunday, July 14th. The exhibition is open to the public until August 18th. You can also vote for your favourite sculpture, helping to select the ever popular "People's Choice" award.
Entry to the exhibition is by a suggested donation of $2.50 per person. Proceeds from your donation support many local non-profit organizations with $40,000 per year being donated back to these volunteer community groups.
Be sure to bring your camera to this event because once the exhibit is over the sculptures are gone forever. And don't forget to bring your own buckets and shovels on Sat, August 3 for the Amateur Sand Sculpting Competition! Families and Adults can assemble teams of up to 6 people to compete. Full details will be available on the Beach Fest website at www.parksvillebeachfest.ca. by Mar 1.
