GardensParksville and Qualicum Beach are perennial Communities in Bloom winners. Parksville has won the Provincial and National Communities in Bloom awards for cities its size. It also won the "Canadian Classic" award by teaming up with Qualicum Beach in 2005. Qualicum Beach is no stranger to the Communities in Bloom podium either. It won the Provincial "5 Blooms" award in 1999 and the National award as the best community of its size in 2001, the "National Capital Commission Floral Award" and "International Exchange" awards in 2002, and the "International Challenge" award by teaming up with Dyce, Scotland in 2003.
These awards reflect the pride that locals feel about their little piece of paradise is evident everywhere throughout the Parksville and Qualicum Beach region. The local municipalities take gardening seriously and they come by it honestly. Spend a few hours driving through some of our residential areas to our grassroots pride for yourself.Public attractions include the BC Orchid Gardens located at Butterfly World, features a dazzling 800 varieties of orchid sourced from around the world. Milner Gardens and Woodland is home to 10 acres of lush gardens, which in turn are surrounded by an old-growth forest seven times that size. Or drop in for special occasions like summertime jazz concerts, arts and photography exhibits, plant sales and the two-week Rhododendron Days event in early May.
