| Walk In The Woods | < BACK |

It's the Victoria Day weekend and the forecast is sunshine - perfect! We have six loads of sea soil being delivered so I know what we'll being doing for a good part of the weekend - moving a lot of dirt. We will get the vegetable garden all prepped and planted.
But the weekend won't be all work. There must be time for play which will probably be a nice walk in the woods. It won't be a 'Walk In The Woods' Bill Bryson style walking the Appalachian Trail though. Locals and visitors to the Parksville and Qualicum Beach region are lucky because we have more than twenty parks within 20 minutes of anywhere.
One of my all time favourite places to go walking is Top Bridge Regional Park off Chattel Road in Parksville. The newly installed 81 metre suspension bridge now links special trails and parks adding more chances for exploring. When our daughter was around five years old she loved walking along the trail where the ferns and moss grow along the cliffs and the water drips down like miniature waterfalls. She used to say it looked like a place where fairies lived. Maybe they do?
Check it out now or during the summer when you can go for a refreshing swim in the Englishman River. You never know this may become one of your favourite places to walk in the woods too.The RDN Recreation and Parks offer a number of maps and trail systems at their website.
