Vancouver Island Opera - The Marriage of FigaroVancouver Island Opera - The Marriage of Figaro

The Vancouver Island Opera (VIO) will present its 13th full-length feature production with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro on Saturday, October 22nd at 7:30 PM and Sunday, October 23rd at 2:30 PM at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. Excerpts of the opera will, subsequently, be presented to seniors' facilities in the Oceanside area.

The Marriage of Figaro is Mozart's most popular comic opera. The opera is a cornerstone of the operatic repertoire and appears consistently among the top ten of the most frequently performed operas. The Marriage of Figaro continues the plot of TheBarber of Seville several years later, and recounts a single "day of madness" in the palace of Count Almaviva near Seville, Spain.

This production will feature professional soloists and orchestra. Our local operatic chorus, will support the principals with their talent, experience and dedication, to ensure an exciting performance worth attending.

Founded in 2000 by Mme. Tatiana Vasilieva, a former member of the Canadian Opera Company, VIO promotes the appreciation and performance of opera in the mid-island, and provides opportunities for local talent to participate.

Previous productions that have delighted both opera lovers and first-timers alike, include Norma, Rigoletto, Hansel and Gretel, Faust, L'Elisir d'Amore, Die Fledermaus, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Carmen, La Traviata, and The Barber of Seville. Last season's production of Norma was received with critical acclaim.

The Marriage of Figarowill be presented under the honorary patronages of His Worship Marc Lefebvre, Mayor of the City of Parksville and His Worship Teunis Westbroek, Mayor of the Town of Qualicum Beach.
