Once a teacher of theatre and language, Ben Nuttall-Smith is now the author of nine major publications, including a memoir, historical fiction, poetry, and a major film script.
A past president of the Federation of BC Writers, George Opacic founded a publishing company in 2015, called Rutherford Press. One of its first publications was ‘Flying With White Eagle’ by Ben Nuttall-Smith.
Ben’s most recent publication with Rutherford Press, ‘The Birdie at Willets Cottage’, is an enthralling autobiography, compiled in his 90th year. This memoir covers adventures on the high seas, dealings with bullies, the London Blitz, his OSS spy mother, and finally finding lasting love.
George has also published his own works through the company, including his novel ‘Out There’, a science fiction story of a space colony full of idealists, and a protagonist that must travel to a dying world ruled by oligarchs, clinging to outmoded ideals like power and money, wrapped in the memories of past greatness. George has also written ‘In A Cloud Of Sails’, the story of the 3-masted ship called the Endeavor II, that was built under the shadows of North Vancouver’s Second Narrows Bridge, then sailed over the Pacific to become the feature ship in Australia’s Bicentenary celebrations.
George and Ben, both Honorary Lifetime Members of the Federation of BC Writers, will be sharing their work in an exclusive session of QB Reads at the Qualicum Beach Museum on Friday September 13th at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to this free event!
RSVPs are appreciated, by phone 250-752-5533 or email qbmuseum2@shaw.ca.
