Temporary Closure of Beaches to Dogs
Beaches within the Parksville Qualicum Beach Wildlife Management Area (PQBWMA) will be temporarily closed to dogs to the annual Brant geese migration. Rathtrevor Beach will be closed to dogs from February 15 to April 30. Parksville Bay Beach and Qualicum Beach from March 1 to April 30.More Info
Wesley Ridge Hiking Trail is a must-visit destination for hikers looking for a challenging and scenic hike in the Parksville Qualicum Beach region.
This popular trail, located in the rugged wilderness near Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park and Cathedral Grove, offers hikers stunning views, diverse terrain, and abundant wildlife. This trail is sure to delight hikers of all levels of experience.
One of the best parts of the trail are the breathtaking panoramic views. Climb to the lookout spots and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and valleys including Mount Arrowsmith, Mount Wesley, and the Strait of Georgia, as well as glimpses of the Qualicum River and Cameron Lake.
The trail, which is approximately 10 kilometres in length, is classified as moderate to difficult and is best suited for experienced hikers. Hikers will find themselves navigating diverse terrain including steep ascents, narrow ridges, and rocky outcroppings. Along the trails you’ll find a diverse range of plant and animal life as well, including plants like the Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, and red cedar trees, and wildlife like black bears, cougars, and bald eagles.
What to Bring
While you’re there be sure to follow the Three T’s: trip planning, training, and taking the essentials. Like all hikes, it is important to come prepared. We recommend bringing sturdy hiking boots, a water bottle, bug spray and a map of the trail on your Wesley Ridge hike. Visitors should also be aware of the potential for wildlife encounters and should take precautions to avoid them.
