4 Great Tidepool Exploration Spots in Nanoose Bay
Nanoose Bay is one of the best areas on Vancouver Island for tidepooling. When the tide goes out, the shoreline reveals a whole underwater world with starfish, crabs, sea anemones, tiny fish, and more. Here are four favourite spots locals love to explore.
1. Madrona Point
Located at the end of Madrona Drive, this rocky point offers wide-open views and shallow pools perfect for spotting sea stars and small marine life. The shoreline is uneven, so sturdy shoes are helpful, but the scenery makes the walk worthwhile. It’s a peaceful spot with fewer crowds and incredible sunsets.
2. Wall Beach
Found at the end of Seahaven Road, Wall Beach is known for its dramatic rock formations and colourful sea stars. At low tide, the pools are easy to access, and the surrounding cliffs provide great photo opportunities. This beach is also popular with scuba divers, so you might spot them heading into the water.
3. Beachcomber Regional Park
Located at the end of Marina Way, this park is a local favourite for families. Gentle shoreline, clearly visible tide pools, and picnic areas make it an easy place to spend the day. Keep an eye out for eagles overhead and seals resting on nearby rocks. You’ll often see plenty of wildlife here even above the water.
4. Brickyard Community Park
Tucked away on Amberwood Lane, Brickyard Bay offers a quiet, sheltered shoreline with calm tide pools ideal for younger explorers. The rocky shelves hold a surprising amount of sea life, and the views across the water are beautiful. It’s a lesser-known spot, which means more space to explore at your own pace.
