Tales for the Telling: The Story of Isobel Gunn

Tales for the Telling, Storytelling for Adults, is delighted to present Deborah Dunleavy doing her show, The Story of Isobel Gunn on Wednesday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Deborah Dunleavy, an award-winning international storyteller, will be attending the Storytellers of Canada Conference in Vancouver in July. Before attending the Conference, she will be joining Tales for the Telling to share the life of Isobel Gunn. Deborah received a Canada Council grant to research and write the grueling adventure of a young Orkney lass who disguises herself as a boy to travel to Rupert's Land with the Hudson's Bay Company in 1805. The story is told to music specially composed for this piece written by composer Howard Alexander.

Ms. Dunleavy has created numerous music and storytelling programs including two one-woman story theatre plays: "Battlefield Petticoats - Women in the War of 1812" and "At the Canoe Club Dance" based on true stories collected from seniors who remembered the years before 1945.

Her tours have taken her to Singapore, China, Ireland, Scotland, and throughout Canada. She was storyteller in residence at the Arthur Child Heritage Museum and a regular storyteller on North Country Public Radio in New York state.

Storytelling evenings at the McMillan are very popular and people are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance at the McMillan Arts Centre, 133 McMillan Street.
