Herb Alpert Tribute at Ground Zero - featuring Jake Masri & his Brass Ensemble
Saturday, January 25th
Doors at 6:30 pm Show 7:00pm
The brass are coming!
Spanning a musical career of over 50 years, Alpert built a solid reputation as one of the most successful performing artists of the 20th century. He felt inspired to co-write his first of many hit singles “The Lonely Bull” back in 1962 while attending a bullfight (featuring a local mariachi band) in Tijuana, Mexico. Due to a growing demand for live appearances, the “Brass”, consisting of the best LA session musicians, were formed in 1964 and they soon became one of the highest paid acts in show business. Tijuana Brass awards & honors include (5) #1 Hits, (28) albums on the Billboard charts, (8) Grammy Awards, (14) Platinum albums, (15) Gold albums, & as of 1996 a total of 72 million albums sold worldwide. They also hold a Guinness World Record for placing 5 albums in the top 20 during 1966 (outselling the Beatles). Their music has been featured in advertising, TV specials, game shows, and movies - including title song from Casino Royale. Since disbanding the Tijuana Brass in 1984, Alpert has enjoyed a successful solo career in R&B alongside wife/singer Lani Hall.
Please join a stellar line-up of local musicians featuring Michael Eddy on keyboard, Rick Husband on guitar, Grahame Edwards on bass, Tom Tinsley on drums, Jeff Agopsowicz on trombone, Jay Havelaar & Jake Masri on trumpet. This 2 hour tribute performance commences at 7pm & admission is $20. By all means, please spread the word & we hope to see you there.
