Nature at Work - Why Natural Assets Matter to Our Communities

November 14, 2026 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Nature at Work - Why Natural Assets Matter to Our Communities.

Our streams, forests, groundwater, soils and shorelines do important work every day. They provide essential services that support healthy ecosystems, resilient communities and our quality of life. But how do we recognize the value of these natural assets, and how can we make sure they continue to function into the future?

Join the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI) for Nature at Work, an engaging drop-in learning session exploring natural asset management and why it matters to our communities.

What You'll Discover:

  • Nature as Infrastructure: Learn how streams, forests and other natural systems provide important services alongside roads, pipes and other built infrastructure.
  • Natural Asset Management: Explore how communities can recognize, plan for and manage natural assets to support long-term environmental health and community well-being.
  • The Ecological Accounting Process (EAP): Discover how this approach helps communities better understand and account for the ecological and financial value of stream systems.
  • Local Research and Opportunities: Learn about projects and initiatives underway in our region, share your ideas and discover opportunities to get involved in natural asset management planning.

Drop In, Explore and Connect! Researchers and staff will be available throughout the event to share local examples, introduce resources, answer questions and hear your perspectives.

Whether you're curious about how nature supports our communities, interested in local conservation efforts, or involved in community planning, this is an opportunity to learn, ask questions and participate in the conversation. Everyone is welcome to drop in anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Proudly supported by the Town of Qualicum Beach and the Regional District of Nanaimo.
