Family Day Trip - Caves, Fish & Chips, & Touch Tanks
If your kids are 5 and up, here's an adventure-filled day trip idea!
Start with a 90 minute Family Cavern Tour (not suitable for kids under 5 years old) at Horne Lake Caves. Check the Horne Lake Caves tour schedule and make a reservation to make sure you get the time you want. Try for mid-morning so you have time after for the next couple stops!
After cave exploration, you'll be hungry! It's about 45 minutes drive to Ship & Shore Cafe in Deep Bay, about half of which is just getting back to the highway. They're rumored to have the best fish & chips on Vancouver Island. Try 'em out and decide for yourself! If the sun's shining, enjoy the view of Deep Bay Marina from the patio.
The crushed shell road to VIU's Deep Bay Marine Field Station is just a few metres away. Enjoy beautiful views of Baynes Sound and take the kids downstairs to have fun at the touch tanks. This is a working research station designed with sustainability in mind. Click here for open hours and rates.
Happy exploring!
