Community Spotlight Series: Haida Gold Ocean Adventures
Our Community Spotlight Series lets you learn more about our locals and what they love about living and doing business in Parksville Qualicum Beach. We're thrilled to feature Haida Gold Ocean Adventures as this month's Community Spotlight.
We're excited to feature Haida Gold Ocean Adventures as this month's Community Spotlight. Located in beautiful Nanoose Bay, Haida Gold Ocean Adventures offers a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of our coast from the water on scenic charters, sunset cruises or fishing adventures. We spoke to owners, Captain Mike Bellis and Kristi Bellis, about life in Parksville Qualicum Beach and some of their favourite local spots.

How would you describe the place you live to someone who is yet to visit?
"The tagline for Nanoose Bay is "nurtured by nature", and that really sums it up. We are surrounded by forests and mountains on one side and the Salish Sea on the other. Our community is a destination off the main highway, so you have to make a point to come here. But if you decide to turn down our country road, you'll find so many things to see and do."
What do you love about where you live?
"The peaceful rural setting, yet we're only a 15-minute drive to the city if needed. But honestly, Nanoose Bay has so many great restaurants, and our local community hub of "Red Gap" has most everything you need."

What other businesses should people see during their visit?
"Definitely stop by Rusted Rake if you love brew pubs. They have an amazing outdoor patio. Springford Farm has a great farm store stocked with local products. Red Cod Forge is a local artisan that creates beautiful metal sculptures. And, of course, Fairwinds Marina, where we're moored - they have a restaurant and cafe with spectacular views."
You have a free day in PQB. What do you do?
"My wife and I love to get out on the water, fishing or enjoying the scenery and wildlife. We also like going to Spider Lake for a picnic and kayaking/paddleboarding. Our dog loves meeting new people, so we often go for a stroll on the boardwalk at Parksville Beach and get ice cream after dinner."
