Comfort Food & Family Dining
Salt Pizzeria in French Creek has captured the attention of pizza-loving locals and visitors. With organic flour, hand-thrown sourdough thin crust, quality meats, and homemade sauces, it’s no wonder Salt Pizzeria has become the number one restaurant on TripAdvisor. Check out the thin-crust yumminess, especially the Casa Special and the Capricciosa.
When we asked PQB locals where they love to eat, an astounding amount said the Knockananna Grill food truck, and they said you couldn't go wrong with anything on their menu. However, their 'chips' (or fries as we Canadians more commonly call them) are what they're really famous for. Curry chips, poutine, turkey dinner, or even eggs benny on top of chips. The Limerick Burger is also highly rated!
Lefty’s is the spot to go if you're dining out as a family and looking for comfort food. While you are there, be sure to try their Nirvana, which is layers of shortbread, cream cheese, and chocolate caramel pudding on a pecan crust. It’s just as heavenly as it sounds!
Looking for a mouth-watering burger? Look no further than Q Burger in Qualicum Beach, which was recently featured on Canadian Living's list of the best hamburgers in Canada, and was the only restaurant from British Columbia to make the cut! Canadian Living describes Q Burger as an "upscale, fun restaurant with a celebrity chef," offering unique options like the Burgeritto and fan-favourite Q-Boom, as well as vegan options and local craft beer.
Bigfoot Burgers is a casual burger joint, known for its delicious burgers made with locally-sourced ingredients. The menu features a variety of mouthwatering burgers, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, as well as sides like fries and onion rings. If you really want to indulge, wash it down with one of their tasty Yeti shakes.
Tip: Stop here for a quick lunch or snack on the way to Cathedral Grove, MacMillan Provincial Park. It’s conveniently located off Alberni Highway.
PaPa’s Burgers is a popular take-out restaurant in Parksville, known for its delicious burgers and friendly service. The menu features a variety of burgers made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, as well as other classic American fares like fries, onion rings, and milkshakes. With the casual picnic tables outside and affordable prices, PaPa's Burgers is a great spot for a quick and satisfying meal.
Giovanni's in Qualicum Beach is a charming Italian restaurant located in Qualicum Beach, known for its authentic cuisine and warm atmosphere. The menu features classic Italian dishes like pasta, pizza, and risotto, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. With its cozy ambiance and friendly service, Giovanni's is a must-visit for anyone craving delicious Italian food in Qualicum Beach.
Black Bird Schnitzel Haus in Qualicum Beach is one of the only German‑Bavarian restaurants on eastern Vancouver Island that offers authentic German cuisine. Choose from almost two dozen kinds of Schnitzel, spaetzle, sausages, and other tasty home‑cooked comfort foods.
Craving Italian food? Cuckoo in Coombs will whisk you away to Italy, just for one night. Start with the Focaccia Chanterelle, then enjoy one of their traditional Italian thin-crust pizzas or house-made pasta. Dining on their el fresco patio with a spritz in hand during the summer months is an absolute must. But be willing to either get there early or wait in line, as they don't take reservations.
Shore Restaurant is a casual kiosk-like restaurant on the Qualicum Beach boardwalk. It offers stunning ocean views and a relaxed atmosphere. The menu features classic takeaway options like fish and chips, burgers, fish tacos, and a family favourite - soft-serve ice cream and Dole Whip! Dine in and enjoy ocean views, or take your food away and dine picnic-style on the beach or at one of the neighbouring picnic tables.
Pubs & Craft Breweries
We know beer is not technically food, but I’m sure a few of you appreciate our craft breweries being included on the list. Plus, most of them serve up some delicious food to enjoy with your pint! Additionally, in Parksville Qualicum Beach, we are spoiled with a number of pubs that serve up delicious food fare. Here is a list of the top craft breweries and pubs in the area!
The Rocking Horse Pub is a local watering hole and charming English-style pub located in the heart of Nanoose Bay. It serves up a variety of pub-style food and drinks, including traditional meat or fish pies, craft beers, and cocktails. The pub also features live music performances and other entertainment events throughout the year.
The iconic Rod & Gun opened in 1898 and was voted as having the best pub food in the area. If you are visiting mid-week, the Rod & Gun has Wing Wednesday, which is always delicious, and they also regularly host events and live music, so be sure to check out their website for details.
The cozy English pub atmosphere of Black Goose Inn in Parksville is equipped with oceanfront views, fireplaces, cold beer, and live music. Their big grass patio is also a fantastic place to soak up the sunshine in the warmer months! The Black Goose Inn is also known to have delicious caesars, fish and chips, burgers, and Steak & Stilton pies.
Looking for a good Caesar cocktail or a hangover cure? Head to the Extreme Eatery in Parksville for their giant Caesar cocktails topped with a complete meal on top. Their Extreme Caesar is loaded with a slider, mini poutine and all the classic fixings! But if you're really hungry, the King Caesar (shown in the image below) is complete with a slider, poutine, onion rings, chicken wings, and dry ribs, and it's definitely big enough to share.
Mount Arrowsmith Brewing is one of the longest-standing breweries in the area and for a good reason. Be sure to try a paddle of their craft beers and pair it with one of their delicious pizzas on their sunny or heated patios.
The owners of Mount Arrowsmith opened their second brewery, Fern + Cedar Brewing, in Qualicum Beach in December 2021, and it has already been voted as a top brewery to try on Vancouver Island. Plus, they have a heated patio and great food items available to order while you sip on your pint. Their menu offers pub-like items like chicken wings and cheeseburgers, while also offering healthier options like a citrus avocado bowl and teriyaki salmon.
Additionally, we recommend checking out the LoveShack Libations nano-brewery for its unique brews and experience. Sometimes you’ll also find the Knockananna food truck parked out front if you are in need of a snack!
Note: their opening hours are only Wednesdays (5-9 pm) and Saturdays (1-5 pm) because LoveShack Libations is only a one-man show.
One of the newest breweries to hit Vancouver Island is Rusted Rake Brewing, and it’s located right here in Nanoose Bay. Although they just opened their doors in July 2022, they are already getting rave reviews. Rusted Rake Brewing is a ‘farm-to-tap’ craft brewery because they grow the barley for their beer on the same land the tasting room is on.
Come enjoy their modern farmhouse-style indoor tasting room, covered patio and picnic tables on the yard overlooking the farm while doing a tasting flight of their beers and their unique food creations. We recommend the chicken and pickles, brisket Burnt Ends and Chips and Grana Padano Dip.
Vegetarian & Vegan Food
Many restaurants, pizzerias and bakeries in Parksville Qualicum Beach specialize in vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free meals. Head to this blog post to see the full list of restaurants that cater to these dietary needs.
Looking for a healthy meal to fuel all your PQB adventures? Head to Realm Food Co. Everything here is fresh and delicious, but in particular, the Ixim (pronounced "shim" – I had to ask) Bowl, Arrowsmith Bowl, or Bliss Bowl hit the spot with their real, local flavour. Or try their dietary-friendly tacos like fish tacos, vegan tacos and chicken tostadas.
Additionally, if you want to end your meal with a treat, Realm Food Co. doughnuts are also highly rated, especially if you are looking for gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free or vegan options.
Casual Fine Dining
For the best happy hours in the area, stop by Qualicum Beach Cafe. Bonus points if you score a spot on either their undercover or open-air patio with views of the Salish Sea. We recommend their Smoked Old Fashions, $1.50 fresh oysters, and crab cakes. And if you're willing to splash out, order their seafood tower - delicious and totally photogenic for the 'gram!
Alternatively, if you are in Parksville, check out The Beach Club Resort’s restaurant, Pacific Prime. Their menu features fresh, locally sourced, and sustainable ingredients and has a great mix of casual options, like nachos, to more fine dining dishes, like prime rib. From experience, we highly recommend their roasted sablefish - it is delectable!
Another thing that sets this Pacific Prime apart is its stunning beachfront patio, just off the Parksville Beach Boardwalk. In the warmer months, you can expect comfortable seating and fire tables, and in the winter, they have these unique heated dining domes!
Bayside Restaurant and Lounge is a beautiful waterfront dining destination located in Parksville, offering stunning views of the ocean and mountains. The restaurant serves delicious West Coast cuisine using locally sourced ingredients and offers an extensive wine list and creative cocktails. For lunch or dinner their seafood chowder is always a hit, as is the west coast seafood linguine. They also do a wonderful brunch. Additionally, while you dine, be entertained by a piano player and admire local art displayed all over the restaurant.
Listed as the number one restaurant in Qualicum Beach on TripAdvisor, Bistro 694 offers casual fine dining right in the heart of town. Our go-to’s are always their crab cakes, mussels, seafood crepes and seafood pasta. Be sure to book a table in advance, as this restaurant is small and popular.
Or if you are celebrating something special and looking for somewhere to celebrate? Make a reservation at Chameleons in Parksville, and be sure to try their braised beef short ribs or the Seafood Crepe.
Cedars Restaurant & Lounge, the go-to spot for happy hour and half price appies, is the area's ultimate crowd-pleaser. Indulge in their mouthwatering 3 Cheese Artichoke Dip, and don't forget to leave room for their famous peanut butter pie dessert. Despite its fine dining atmosphere, Cedars also warmly welcomes children, making it a perfect choice for families. With exceptional food and unparalleled service, Cedars consistently delivers an extraordinary dining experience.
If you are in the mood for a quality steak dinner, head to Kalvas the Loghouse Restaurant in Parksville. All of their beef is Prime Grade, perfectly aged and grilled to order. Here you will find traditional Prime Rib to Filet Mignon. Kalvas is also well known for its fresh seafood. Surf and turf, anyone?
Seafood (including Fish & Chips)
You can’t come to Vancouver Island and not eat a coastal favourite dish - Fish & Chips!
The Shady Waterfront Pub & Restaurant is a popular spot in Qualicum Beach and has been operating since 1924. The pub offers stunning views of the Georgia Strait and serves a diverse menu of classic pub fare and seafood dishes. We highly recommend the calamari, pan seared halibut on coconut rice, and their fish tacos!
With its laid-back atmosphere and live music events, the Shady Waterfront is a favourite gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're looking for a casual meal, a few drinks with friends, or a night out with entertainment, this pub is definitely worth a visit.
Tip: Be sure to swing by on Friday nights to join in on music trivia from 6-9 pm.
What was the French Creek Marine Pub has now re-opened with a fresh new name, brand and look! The French Creek Social Hall, is a popular seafood restaurant and bar located in Parksville, overlooking the French Creek marina. The pub serves a variety of fresh seafood dishes, craft beers, and cocktails in a casual and friendly atmosphere. And of course, they are also famous for their fish & chips!
Ship & Shore at Deep Bay Marina has been said to serve up the best fish and chips in the area! It’s a big call, but we’ve tried them, and they sure are tasty. While you are here, try their Seafood Chowder, Calamari, and Hand-Crafted Pizzas. All extra delicious while watching the sunset from their waterfront patio!
Aioli Seafood Restaurant offers a Mediterranean-inspired menu with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. Dishes range from classic pasta and seafood dishes to more unique offerings like lamb shank and stuffed zucchini flowers. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Overall, Aioli's Restaurant is a must-visit destination for foodies exploring the Parksville area.
Cafes, Tea Rooms & Bakeries
Starting the day with a strong cup of coffee is a prerequisite for a great day! And in Parksville Qualicum Beach, there is no shortage of wonderful cafes to keep you caffeinated. Additionally, you’ll also be amazed by our specialty bakeries!
Bailey's in the Village is a charming cafe and bistro located in the heart of Qualicum Beach, BC. The restaurant offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with indoor and outdoor seating options. Bailey's serves a variety of freshly made breakfast and lunch options, including soups, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods. The cafe also offers a selection of specialty coffees and teas, making it a great spot to relax and catch up with friends or simply enjoy a quiet moment alone.
French Press Coffee Roasters in Qualicum Beach & Parksville are two fan favourites for delicious specialty coffee drinks made to enjoy with mouth-watering, fresh-baked goodies and tasty sandwiches. And if you are in the mood for a treat, you have to try their incredible carrot cake.
Lastly, while you are at French Press Coffee, be sure to grab a bag of their award-winning beans to enjoy at home!
Come wander the beautiful Milner Gardens & Woodland grounds and stay for afternoon tea in the historic house. Tea includes sandwiches, sweets, and scones with Devon Cream. Oh my!
If you’re crazy for doughnuts, head to Coombs Old Country Market and look out for Billy G’s Doughnut Shop in the A-frame. Everything is made fresh daily, and there are a variety of unique flavours to try, including the ‘Gimme S’more (marshmallow filling dipped in chocolate) or the Billy Gruff Bombers (caramel filling topped with bacon). We recommend getting there early, as things tend to sell out before noon.
Wild Culture Artisan Bakery is a hidden gem in Qualicum Beach. They are famous for their delicious pastries and organic sourdough bread. Plus, on Fridays, you can pre-order ‘take & bake’ pizzas until 5 pm. Bike by and enjoy lunch or a treat on their beautiful garden patio.
Please note their limited opening hours, which are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12 pm to 5 pm. And get there early to avoid disappointment.
If it's European-style pastries you are after, there is no beating De L'ile, as a local French couple runs it. Get there early to enjoy a pain au chocolat, coffee kombucha caramel knots, or their Portuguese custard tart. In the evenings, they also run a three or six-course tasting menu.
Sweetspot Bakeshop started as a food truck and developed into a brick-and-mortar shop due to its popularity. Cookies, brownies, and cakes, they have it all. Tip: buy the Baker's Dozen Assorted Stuffed to try various items.
Fun Fact, did you know that Canada is the birthplace of the butter tart? For absolutely divine butter tarts, head to Trees Restaurant. Additionally, if you are in search for some gluten-free baking, Trees Restaurant has plenty of options.
Breakfast / Brunch
They say that breakfast (or brunch) is the most important meal of the day! If that’s the case, it better be good. For our top list of breakfast spots, check out this blog post here and the list of restaurants below.
In Parksville, Pacific Brimm is where friends meet to enjoy a good cup of joe and a delicious breakfast. Here you’ll find a variety of egg benedicts, pancakes, waffles, and breakfast burritos! And if you prefer to bring your coffee to the beach, this cafe is conveniently located only a block away from Parksville Community Beach.
For a delicious breakfast or brunch for those that want to sleep in on the weekend, head to Final Approach Restaurant at the Qualicum Beach Airport. We recommend their eggs benedict or the veggie breakfast bowl.
Note: Brunch is only available from 10:00am - 2:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Otherwise, lunch and dinner are always available.
For those egg benny fans out there, head to Gary’s Bistro! Their menu has a variety of different types of eggs benedicts, and among the most popular are the Mexican benny, and the Canadian Benny. Gary’s is also known for its delicious burgers.

Sushi Hama's bento boxes are great value for lunch or dinner, and their Salmon Donburi will melt in your mouth. Other favourites include Chicken teriyaki and tempura.
Alternatively, Sam’s Sushi in French Creek is also delicious. The Sushi Combos are a great way to have a little bit of everything. The best roll is Sam’s Red Eye Roll, but be warned, it has a kick!
Although it might not catch your eye when driving by, Saigon Garden is the Vietnamese spot in town. Come for the pho, spring rolls and good prices, not the ambience. Or, do as the locals do, and order #29 on their menu. Believe us, it’ll keep you coming back for more!
Likewise, the Mekong River restaurant in Parksville has become a staple for its Vietnamese cuisine. Owned and operated by a local Vietnamese family, menu items like Vietnamese crepes and fresh spring rolls are all made in-house, by Grandma, with authentic recipes. Plus, they have food options for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free guests.
Amrikko's Indian Grill in Parksville has the most authentic Indian food in the area. Order the Butter Chicken, of course, or the Chicken Korma.

One food experience in Parksville that you'll talk about for years is the all-you-can-eat tapas at Tigh-Na-Mara's Treetop Tapas Grill. This restaurant is linked to their famous Grotto Spa. So all guests must dine in their robes, and your meal can be enjoyed before or after a dip in their mineral pools. You'll be presented with seventeen tapas plates, and after you try them all, you can re-order your favourites. We guarantee you won't leave hungry after this meal!

This cozy cafe offers delicious homemade food, including burgers, fish & chips, and lemon pie, while the gallery features a rotating selection of artwork from local artists.
